During Lent, many of us will be praying the Stations of the Cross, whether at our parish church or at home as a family, and I have put together a huge list of books and other resources available to introduce your children to this devotion.
I have organized these in order of price, from cheapest to most expensive. Whether you’re looking for an inexpensive consumable resource or a quality family heirloom, you should be able to find an item here to help you teach your children about Our Lord’s Passion.
The Catholic Company has this Stations of the Cross coloring book for $2.50. This would be great for young children to color while you’re praying the stations at home.
Oriental Trading has these Color Your Own Stations of the Cross Wheels for $4.98 for a set of 12. This is nice because children can first make the craft and then use it while praying the Stations.
Oriental Trading also has a few other Stations of the Cross craft kits as well.
I Walk with Jesus: A Simple Way of the Cross is a simple e-book for young children. It’s $4.99.
Holy Heroes’ Bilingual Stations of the Cross Prayer Booklet includes Scripture and child-friendly intentions. It is $6.95.
You can print the original artwork in this Stations of the Cross coloring book right from home for $8.00.
Another way to experience the stations is through this Via Dolorosa Experience DVD for $14.92. It takes you through the actual Stations of the Cross in the Holy Land with the Franciscan friars. This could be a beautiful family meditation.
I love the idea of this Stations of the Cross Chaplet! It is a like a rosary, but it includes all 14 stations. This one is $16.99 and comes in a gift box with a prayer card.
These beautiful original icons are available as a set of prints for $25 or individually on wood for $12 each.
Look at these beautiful Stations of the Cross Ornaments from Etsy shop Jesse Tree Treasures. At $37.95, this set is a little more expensive, but it could be treasured year after year. I can imagine children taking turns hanging the ornaments for each station.
For a meaningful activity craft that could also become an heirloom, check out this Stations of the Cross Grotto Kit. This would be great to work on as a family and then treasure for years.
